A Close Shave for Izzy

Chin hair can be the scourge of menopause so anything that might help address the problem seems worth a try. Hence, my recent investment in the little kit pictured here. A mere 3 euro secures 2 'depilators' and a selection of replacement pads. The pads are surprisingly similar to sandpaper. The kit comes with instructions. Use on clean, dry skin. Be careful if you have sensitive skin. Moisturise afterwards. Etc.

Well, the good news is that the kit seems to work. I tried it on my arm as a test site. Perhaps I was a little too aggressive - the hair is gone but I am left with some redness not unlike sunburn. It doesn't hurt but it is not exactly pretty and I'm hoping it fades before I go back to work. I've been treating it with propolis gel and aloe vera and it has pretty much faded away within about 12 hours. But still.

Fortunately, I took a more gentle approach when trying it on the chin and am pleased to report that there are no noticeable side effects other than a pleasantly smooth and hairless skin.

Is it better than the tweezers? It probably is.

Will I use it again? I probably will.

Would I buy another kit? I might.

Do I have any lingering concerns? Yes, I wonder how the hair will grow back.

Still, for the sake of a couple of euros, it was definitely worth it. I'm glad I gave it a try.

Well ladies, I said I'd report back to let you know how the hair grew back. The answer is, much the same as usual - and at much the same rate too. But I should add that a couple of days after the close shave outlined above, I was showing some evidence of harsh treatment on both arms and chin. I guess it's to be expected if you apply what seems close enough to sandpaper. It's odd that it wasn't immediately apparent. On the chin line, I could feel the roughness although I didn't have noticable redness - at least nothing that my Bare Escentuals couldn't handle. Still - all in all - maybe I'm not going to rush back to the kit. I binned it this afternoon.

I use Jolen bleach along my upper lip, so far, so good!
