Until this week I confess to having been a fake tan virgin. Indeed I would still be pale and interesting were it not for the under-30s I work with who never contemplate a night out without tanning up first. To cut a long story short this week was the week I decided to join their ranks.
The tanning method of choice was Liz Earle's Sun Shade Botanical Self-Tan Spray chosen because I had a free sample that came as part of a gift set about two years ago. It's a spritzer. I knew enough from hearing the twentysomethings talk about exfoliation and moisturisation to know that you should prepare the skin but it was late and I was tired and, to be absolutely honest, I didn't really expect the tan to work. So I hopped in the shower with Philosophy's Buffing Wash, then skipped the moisurisation, spritzed the fake tan and then read the instructions on the bottle which, like my daughters and their pals, advised exfoliation and moisturiser. It also, worryingly, said to blend in the tan quickly and evenly. I did my best to follow the last bit of instruction. Dried off and went to bed. Up again at 6.oo am the tan seemed even enough but scarecely noticeable. I complimented myself on my lucky escape, dressed and went into the office where I spent the day. Back in a hotel that evening I was ASTONISHED to discover the tan had come up more strongly - but better still - had come up evenly despite my cack-handed application methodology. Not only that, but the tan looks natural and golden on my fair skin. So, yet again, Liz Earle impresses me. I never thought I'd say it, but you can count me amongst the converts to this fake tan. I will definitely use it again.
