Do you ever wonder about menopause symptoms? Did you have a list in your mind when hit 40 or so, and a fairly clear idea of what to watch out for? I certainly didn't and I sure wish that someone had to thought to pass one on. What I have come to realise this week is that the list is a lot longer than you might think and on it are many minor and not minor complaints that most of us fret about alone - complaints like the Nightmares and Vertigo - which I've blogged on before - are cases in point. Another one that came to my attention this week because it's one I've experienced on and off in the last few months is the itchy leg problem.
I mentioned this to my doctor and she recommended Silcock's Base - a kind of moisturiser and / or soap substitute that can be used by eczema sufferers. I did try it but with limited success because the texture of the stuff made it practically impossible to apply. The other thing about me and body lotion is that it's a bit of a hassle first thing in the morning so I have to actually enjoy using a product if I am going to be disciplined about applying it every day. But I take the point. The legs need a bit more TLC and no-one is going to deliver it except yours truly.
So, what is the answer? Part of the solution is to pay more attention to exfoliating the legs so as to get the best out of any moisturiser you then apply. I like the salt and oil scrubs but they can be a bit messy unless you have time on your hands. A great little product that I came across recently is Philosophy's Buffing Wash which has tiny grains embedded in a shower wash. It is quick and easy to use and leaves a nice subtle scent on the skin. You then follow that up with a good quality, easy to apply moisturiser that is gentle and that delivers some visible improvement. I've settled on a tried and trusted old favourite - L'Occitaine's Shea Butter Body Lotion. It's a tad more expensive than what the doctor ordered but it's much easier to apply and has produced quite good results.
